Band Practice - 17-08-10

New drummer try-out!!

Hi all, we've just had a really good practice run through our normal set.
We have had a new drummer trying to "get up-to-speed" with our normal material and the results are very promising.

Obviously, we are still going to need some time to get it all 100%, but I am hoping that will come with a few more practice runs.

There was a nice buzz to last night and everyone seemed to be enjoying the session and getting into the swing of things.

Not really much more to say.. hopefully more to come next week and perhaps a new recording date for our existing songs is not that far away.

Thanks guys!

News/Band Practice - 10-08-10

Hi All,

We're sad to mention that John, is no longer our drummer for Ashera due to personal reasons.
John has helped us over the last months to become an awesome band and was key to our successful 1st gig in Caerleon.
Thanks John, we wish you all the best and hope that you stay in touch.

Practice night was a little quieter than usual and a little strange not to have any drums there.
We decided to take the opportunity to write some new material.

We've come up with a slower melodic tune that sounds pretty sweet (if I do say so myself).
The whole thing has been recorded by Cath who will hopefully be able to get some lyrics out for us perhaps next week.

There were also a few other ideas that we've thrown around that were all captured on Cath's recording device and so maybe a few more songs could come out of this practice/jam session than first thought.

Recording of our two songs (Crave and Take away) has been now cancelled for the 14th August and obviously a drummer is required before we can start to record any more.

An advert has been placed on the JoinMyBand website, if your interested please use link below
Advert: drummer for Ashera

That's it for now I guess.
Thanks all.

Gig at Boleros Bar (Caerleon)- 14/07/10

Hi all,

Well, our first gig.... went very well indeed. :)

Sound check was interesting, in that the sound engineer felt he had to congratulate John for having the loudest set they ever had!!! (nice one John).

We all set up - check our sound levels and then waited to be called up.

We got on stage around 9:30 and did our 25 min set.
Once we finished we were met with applause and cheers (which I took as a good sign).

So that's it, we have officially started gigging around and will post our up-coming events as soon as we have them confirmed.

Boleros have taken our contact details and so we hope we get invited back.

All in all I think we done really well as a band on their first public appearance and the feedback we got only reflects this more so.

Great turn out from our fans, partners and friends - thanks to all!
And again thanks to Boleros Bar for having us!

Band Practice - 29-06-10

Hey All,
Our first band practice in what seems like months!
(We though we had better get some practice in for the gig we have on the 14th July).

I must say that this was a really good practice session (it might have been down to the fact that we haven't had a full on practice in a while due to holidays, illness, etc, but it was awesome).
John did have a slight issue with one of his Toms rattling on the drum kit, but have hopefully sorted this out now? :S

The new song that was spawned from a great riff (ala Rich), is brilliant and we will probably be ending the night of the 14th with it (as long as all goes to plan).

I must admit, it took me a little while to get the riff nailed down, but that can only mean that we are now starting to push the boundaries on what we can achieve musically and so the rewards on mastering it can only mean better and 'meatier' tracks! :D

So, its all go for the gig on the 14th!

We have a 30 min slot, which we hope to play around 4-5 of our songs.

Songs in mind are below:
- Rising Sun
- Losing Skin
- Not One Kiss
- New song - Not named

We'll get one more song lined up if we have time left.

It should be a good night, and will be a nice way of getting us up and gigging to hopefully more venues in future.

2 more practices to go until show time!

Laters.

Jam practice - 25-05-10

Hey All,

Well, after two weeks of not getting together as a band, we finally managed to get most of us down Newport to get a few ideas out in the open.

I'm really liking the new riffs that were suggested and we have managed to come away with three new separate songs ..ish.
They just need a bit more work to get them completed, but we all have a rough idea of where we should take them.

We have also received our two songs that were recorded a few weeks back.
The production and re-mastering of them are awesome (even if I do say so myself), it makes a huge difference to the first two recordings that have been posted up on our facebook and reverbnation pages.
Thanks again to Phil from OneLouderStudios for getting this done for us. I'm very happy with the outcome.

So that's pretty much all I can think of at the moment.. 3 new songs near enough in the bag and we've all come away with ideas of how to get them completed.

We'll hopefully have some rough recordings of the songs soon, but, I'm not sure whether to put them somewhere online or even where I could put them for all of you to have a listen.
Might be something I'll look into as a sort of depository of ideas - but will probably restrict access to just the band and close followers?

So that's it for now..

Recording Session - 8-05-10

Hey all,

Have just come back from an awesome recording session (Started at 9 this morning and finished at 6!!).
Feel a little drained now and supping on a well deserved beer :D :D.

We have now managed to get two songs recorded and I will be posting them on the ashera ning site soon (http://ashera-music.ning.com).

I'm hoping Rich is going to get them up on the reverbsite and also on our home site soon...
(http://ashera-music.com/, http://ashera.bravehost.com/ and http://www.reverbnation.com/Asheramusic).

It took awhile to get two completed songs as we decided to go for multiple-track recording.

John went first to get the drums down and then he was following by Ade on the bass, then Rich, and then Me on guitars and Cath finally for the vocals.

Little tweaking at the end and volia - 2 songs done.
(Tracks were Losing Sking and Rising Sun)

Well done all, it was a good day....
Thanks to Ade for the sandwiches by the way (and the booze).

And thanks to Phil at One Louder Studios (www.onelouderstudios.com) for putting up with us for the entire day...

Catch you all laters.

Band practice - 04-05-10

Hey All,

So another awesome practice run before our recording session this Saturday!!!.
Hope we are able to get at least three down for a demo set, but we'll see how it goes..

I must say I was a little tired after the bank holiday weekend and it was apparent when I started the night by playing the wrong song to everybody else and wondered why it sounded off.??.. (Took me longer than i care to admit to figure out what was going on also.)

Anyway..... soon as that was sorted, everything seemed to go well.

We even managed to get some new chord arrangements sorted for a new song.

I've yet to remember to bring my video camera to see if we could get some footage up on our site...hopefully next week.

Oh, I've also been playing around with the idea of using my iphone as a sort of low-budget 4 track recording device - for jam sessions.
I'm not too sure how this will pan out - but definitely worth having a go..

So this is a new blog site I'm trying as I've heard the ning site is going to be changing in July and so I thought I'd better get the blog site moved...

Think that's it for now, ...open for comments..

:D

new artwork

here's s a new piece of artwork.

tell me what u think or what u want changed etc etc :)

thanks guys

Band practice - 20-04-10

Hey All,

So a shaky start to the evening, with forgotten pedal boards and broken light bulbs.... but.. things turned out ok in the end.

We have now managed to time our songs
(Slash Trib, Salt and Rain, Losing Skin, Not one kiss and the new one), and it's all good, we can now start thinking about which order we play them in to get best effect for a Gig.
(John, I guess we can start up a discussion now on possible Gigs in the next few weeks at the Doll's House?)

Talking about effect, think there maybe some future conversations to be had between myself and Rich about what sort of effects we need to apply to our guitars in order to get to that happy medium..
(I still have too much bass and Rich is still a little too much of a tin sound - but it'll get there).

Thanks to Alyssia and Rachel for showing up to watch us and hopefully we can get a bit of feedback from you both on this blog as to how we performed?, what could be done differently, etc.. :D..

Great session guys and gals ...

Hopefully more pics of this band practice will be up soon...

Band practice - 13-04-10

Hey All,

Another awesome practice session in our new found place One Louder Studios (www.onelouderstudios.com).

No kidding the room we had to practice in was huge!!, awesome acoustics to boot.

Went through our normal set:
Slash tribute
Losing Skin
Not One kiss
etc

Plus we managed to get a new song done, which is probably the best one we've done so far.

There was a little debate about the lead and rhythm parts (uh hum), but that was sorted and the result was kick -ass!

We have had some 'action' shots during the session that I hope to upload soon.
We have now booked in our first recording session for the 8th May... should be cool.

Pics below:

Jam practice - 06-04-10

Went through our usual set-up and re-arranged our instrument set-up.
It seemed to work... I could actually hear the rest of the band and we sounded Awesome!

Jam practice - 30-03-10

Hey all, awesome band practice on Tuesday, and who would have thought that we could come up with such a well put together song in the last half hour... (Just hope I can remember how it went by the time we write it down...)
So I guess that gives us 4 songs? (Correct me if I'm wrong there)...

I'm so pleased with my newly acquired AMP (thanks to Ebay)... effects are awesome and just need a bit of time to get the perfect effect to overlay some of our existing songs...next on the list is a foot pedal to go with it and I'll be all set. :D

I guess it's nearly time to get some of our stuff recorded and uploaded to all our various sites that we are creating (this site, http://ashera-music.com, and myspace ) and it would be good to get as much info on as many studios as we can (bearing in mind location and cost).

Awesome artwork coming in from Alyssia (thanks for that by the way) and we can hopefully incorporate them more into our sites...(any ideas or concepts, feel free to comment..)

This is the first blog post and hopefully future posts will have a bit more detail about jam practices, recordings and general happenings within the band...
